Substitute bus driver accused of hitting student

A first-grader from McDivitt Elementary School in Old Bridge says a substitute bus driver hit him multiple times.

The bus driver allegedly hit 6-year-old Gabe Lodato as punishment for talking too loud. Lodato, as well as other parents, say the driver also kicked the student's feet out of the bus aisle.

Principal Laurie Anne Coletti sent a letter home, stressing the driver is not an employee of Old Bridge schools. The letter also stated that the driver won't be driving for Old Bridge again and that reports were filed with DYFS and the Old Bridge police.

The owner of the Browntown Bus Company, which employs the driver, denies the substitute hit or kicked anyone, saying "No student was hit. The driver has more than 10 years with the company, and until the investigation is complete, she won't be fired or suspended."

The Old Bridge Police Department confirms a report was filed, but says no arrest has been made, and no charges have been filed. Police are still investigating.
