Businesses strained due to bridge closure

The closure of a local bridge in Middlesex County is causing several business owners to lose many customers.

Business owner Anne Weiner says business has decreased significantly due to the loss of everyday traffic.

The Route 27 bridge in Metuchen has been closed to traffic for reconstruction since April 26 and won't be re-opened until October at the earliest.

Residents say the bridge closure caused them to change their shopping routines to avoid traffic.

The Department of Transportation says the bridge was never meant to be fully closed, but a reassessment of the deterioration prompted them to shut it down completely.
