NYPD cop found guilty in NJ burglary

A former New York City police officer accused of robbing a suspected drug dealer in New Jersey was found guilty yesterday.

The jury found 31-year-old Hector Alvarez guilty of conspiracy, attempted theft and unlawful use of a bulletproof vest.

Police say Alvarez, along with another former NYPD officer, tried to rob an alleged drug dealer at his Rutherford home in 2007.

His former partner, Miguel Castillo pleaded guilty in December.

Alvarez will be sentenced August 6.
