Bear traps paramedics in Wayne

A second paramedics team had to be dispatchedto an emergency call because a bear kept the first crew trapped inside their building today in Wayne. Wayne Police Capt. Paul Ireland says the bruin was gone by thetime officers arrived at the St. Joseph's Wayne Hospital ambulancebuilding Monday morning. Meanwhile, officers scared away two bear cubs that werewandering near St. Josephs Wayne Hospital and William PatersonUniversity. Police temporarily stopped traffic due to the bears. Neighbors in Wayne also had encounters with the bear.

Kevin Luyendyk was building a deck at his house when the bear came into his backyard.

Luyendyk threw a ruler at the bear and it ran away.

At the end of the day, the bears got away, but residents were left with stories to tell about the unexpected visitors.
