Prosecutor: Police probing death of 17-month-old boy

The Middlesex County prosecutor and Perth Amboy's acting police chief have announced that police are investigating the the death of a 17-month-old boy at a day care center in Perth Amboy.

Police say the investigation began when they received a 911 call Monday morning. According to police, the call was made from Maggie's Little School, a day care center on Parker Street.

There are no records that show the day care center was registered or licensed with the state. Officials say that no registration would be required if the operator was watching five or less children.

An autopsy was conducted yesterday by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner's Office, but results were not immediately available.

Officials say the child, whose name is being withheld, was a Carteret resident.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Ralph Cruz, of the Perth Amboy Police Department, at 732-442-4400 or investigator Scott Crocco, of the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office, at 732-745-4471.
