Illegal day care uncovered in Hackensack

A routine fire inspection discovered an illegal day care operating in Hackensack this week.

The day care was operating at 86 Myer St. Investigators found 11 children, ranging in age from infants to 4 years old. All of the children were found inside a 750-square-foot apartment.

Officials say the woman running the operation was caring for the children by herself. The apartment has two pages of safety and zoning violations in all.

Violations include chipped paint and frayed extension cords. In addition to the violations, the there were also renters on the second floor that were kicked out by the city.

The owner of the house as well as the day care provider face thousands of dollars in fines.
