Authorities probe fatal crash near GWB after chase

Authorities say one person was killed in an early morning police chase that ended in a crash near the foot of the George Washington Bridge.

Police say that a uniformed patrol supervisor spotted a motorcyclist, 39-year-old Israel Curbelo, of Ridgefield Park, driving erratically. As soon as the patrol supervisor activated sirens, officials say the motorcyclist drove onto a residential lawn and then proceeded to drive down Teaneck Road in Ridgefield Park. Authorities say Curbelo then proceeded to Route 46 east toward the George Washington Bridge. Near the bridge, police say Curbelo struck the passenger side of a vehicle and lost control of his motorcycle, from which he was ejected.

Curbelo was pronounced dead at the scene. The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office say an investigation into the crash is under way.
