Decaying fish washing up from Pompton Lake

The state is investigating why dozens of decaying fish are washing up on the shore of Pompton Lake.

Residents who have lived in the area for a number of years say they've never seen anything like it.

A State Department of Environmental Quality spokesman says he doubts the lake was contaminated by Dupont chemical plant or anywhere else, but the investigation will look into toxicity levels of the water.

For now, residents are being warned not to fish.
