Troopers writing more tickets on Parkway, Turnpike

State troopers are writing more tickets on the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway, according to state police.

State Police figures show tickets for all motor vehicle violations were up 61 percent on the Parkway last month, compared to April 2009. Ticketing was up 45 percent on the Turnpike for the same period.

Troopers issued 396 tickets to truckers in March compared to 95 written in March 2009.

State Police spokesman Gerald Lewis tells News 12 New Jersey, "Any increases in the number of summonses issued on New Jersey's toll roads are part of a concentrated effort to reduce the number of accidents and specifically fatal accidents." Lewis also said that troopers are working diligently to ensure the safety of motorists traveling New Jersey's roadways.
