Student from Point Pleasant Borough dragged by car in AZ dies

(AP) - A 21-year-old college student from NewJersey who was dragged alongside a car during a purse-snatching inthe Phoenix suburb of Tempe has died from her injuries.

Tempe police Sgt. Steven Carbajal says Thursday that ArizonaState University student Kyleigh Sousa died Wednesday night in alocal hospital.

Sousa was seen talking to a man in a car around 2 a.m. Wednesdaywhen he grabbed her purse and sped away. Carbajal says Sousa becameentangled in the handbag and was dragged about 20 feet before shecame loose and hit the asphalt.

He says police are investigating the incident as a homicide andworking to find the car's driver.

Sousa is from Point Pleasant Borough. She's listed onASU's directory as a communications major.
