Police step up patrols along the Jersey Shore

Local police say they expect a busy summer at the Jersey Shore and are stepping up safety patrols in response.

Officer Tony Trebino says after the harsh winter, he expects a busier than usual summer.

Trebino says they have stepped up safety patrols, bulked up the lifeguard staff and fully stocked the first aid areas.

Beach officials say they want to remind residents to swim near lifeguards, obey the laws, not to swim after hours, to wear plenty of sunscreen, and to drink a lot of water to avoid dehydration.
