Ex-Belmar coach gets 18 years in prison

A former baseball coach at St. Rose High School has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for paying some of his players to send him sexually explicit text messages.

Bartholomew McInerney, 44, of Spring Lake Heights, was convicted in January on 10 counts of child endangerment.

Jurors determined McInerney paid some of his players to send him text messages about their sexual habits.

McInerney failed to appear for his previously scheduled sentencing after he was hospitalized for an undisclosed condition.
