Sussex County to get first shopping mall

Frankford Township will become the home to the first shopping mall in Sussex County.

The township approved the $60 million project to be built near the intersections of Routes 206, 15 and 565.

Frankford natives are split on the decision to bring a mall to the rural community of 5,400 people.

Opponents argue that the mall will create traffic nightmares, harm the environment and contribute to suburban sprawl.

Some Frankford residents say the mall could create much needed jobs and tax revenue.

The mall, named Sussex Commons Lifestyle Outlet, still requires approvals from the Sussex County planning board, the New Jersey Office of Smart Growth and the state Department of Environmental Protection before construction can begin.
