Paterson institutes amnesty program for unpaid tickets

Paterson is launching an amnesty program for parking tickets in an effort to receive a significant amount of the $5 million that has been issued in fines. The program allows motorists to pay tickets without a late fee until June 30. Anyone who pays in full before the program ends will also receive a 20-percent discount. The city's finance director says its current budget shortfall can be eliminated if 10 percent of the ticket fines are paid. Many say they like the idea that they can now pay their tickets without having to worry about late fees.
