NJ teacher sentenced for sex with teen student

(AP) - A southern New Jersey teacher who had asexual relationship with a 14-year-old student has been sentencedto seven years in state prison.

Michael Drebes, a 38-year-old Millville resident, was arrestedlast year after he sexually assaulted the girl and a former femalestudent - who was then 16 - on multiple occasions between Februaryand May 2009.

Authorities learned of the relationship after receiving a tipfrom a student who knew the younger girl.

Drebes, a math teacher at Memorial High School who taught in theMillville school system for five years, pleaded guilty in Januaryto official misconduct and sexual assault as part of a plea bargainwith Cumberland County prosecutors.

Under the sentence imposed Friday, he must serve five yearsbefore becoming eligible for parole.
