Driver killed in crash at Raceway Park

A fatal crash occurred yesterday at Raceway Park in Old Bridge for the second time in two years.

New Jersey State Police have identified the victim as 58-year-old Neal Parker. The car apparently slammed through a barrier and seemed to have caught fire at the park, which is hosting the NHRA SuperNationals. Sources say the car Parker was driving in was a 2005 Monte Carlo, an alcohol-fueled Funny Car. The car can reach speeds well over 100 mph. Top racer Scott Kalitta was also driving a Funny Car when he was killed in a crash at the park two years ago. Kalitta was going about 300 mph in a Toyota Solara when it burst into flames. He was the 1994 and 1995 Top Fuel season champion and had 18 career victories.
