Garbage eyed as possible cause of fatal fire

One man was killed Friday in a fire at a home in Clifton.Firefighters found the man's body on the first floor of the 21 Phyllis Pl. home. Once inside the home, firefighters say they found clutter that made the blaze hot enough to melt their gear. Investigators say they are not yet sure if the garbage caused the fire, but that it was definitely a contributing factor. Neighbors say that a pile of trash on the man's front lawn had been there for two months. They say the man lived alone and kept to himself.
