Police: 3 boys found alone in Jersey City home

Police say they found three young boys left home alone in Jersey City without any food.

According to authorities, police received a tip from P.S. 30, which is the school that the 6-year-old boy attends. The school told police the boys' mother, Dashnay Beckwith, called him in sick on Friday, but he was also absent on Monday and Tuesday.

A community aide from the school went to the family's apartment on Tuesday and found the three boys, ages 6, 3 and 2, alone without food or drink.

Police say they have a warrant for Beckwith's arrest, but she is still missing.

The refrigerator in the apartment had not worked since January, according to police. In addition, authorities say the oldest boy missed 50 days of kindergarten this year.

The boys were found to be healthy after an examination at Christ Hospital. They're now in state custody.
