Rash of gold robberies breaks out in Mahwah
As gold reaches its highest level of value, police are reporting there have been a rash of gold robberies in Mahwah. Mahwah police say James Mullen robbed three homes in one day in search of gold, which is now selling for $1,200 an ounce. Authorities say one of the homes is the home of the secretary of the police chief. Cops say gold jewelry, cash and gift cards were taken, but the secretary still had the receipts for the gift cards. Police say the cards were used to purchase NJ Transit tickets and that the receipts helped them locate Mullen. Investigators say they've also seen more burglaries of gold and silver because criminals are pawning the items as their value rises.
