2 killed in separate Newark shootings

Two people were killed just hours apart in separate shootings in Newark on Saturday.

Essex County authorities say 33-year-old Hope Williams was not the intended target of Saturday night's shooting.

Katherine Carter, a spokeswoman for the county prosecutor's office, said the shooting occurred around 9:30 p.m. A motive wasn't clear, but it may have stemmed from an argument at the cookout attended by about 30 to 40 people.

Four hours earlier, Kion Hinton, 46, was gunned down on Jelliff Avenue. Hinton's family says he was on his way to his mother's apartment with her birthday gift when he came face to face with an unidentified gunman.

Police say no arrests have been made in either shooting.
