Controversial plan to expand Valley Hospital in Ridgewood approved

Last night, more than 650 people packed the auditorium and spilled outside into the street at George Washington Middle School for the Village Planning Board meeting, which reviewed the expansion of Valley Hospital.

Board members approved the controversial expansion plan by a vote of 6-1.

A final decision is months away, but the vote tonight ensured that three-year debate would be considered by the Village Council.

Residents say the move will decrease property values and increase neighborhood traffic.

Police were called in from five other departments to make sure that the large group did not get out of hand. The crowd included those that stood on both sides of the expansion. One person was arrested.
