Newark police say an officer shot and killed a fleeing robbery suspect today. Newark police say the incident took place at around 1 p.m. Police say they chased 18-year-old Jahan Phillips through Westside Park and that he approached a marked squad car with a gun in his hand. According to police, Phillips and the officer exchanged fire on South 13th Street near 16th Avenue. Both were transported to UMDNJ, where Phillips died.

Newark Police Director Garry McCarthy says a second suspect is still on the loose after the two robbed someone at gunpoint on 13th Street earlier this afternoon.
