Robbery suspect killed by Newark police identified

(AP) - Newark police have identified the armedrobbery suspect who was shot and killed by police after he rantoward a patrol car with a gun in his hand.

His alleged accomplice remained at large Thursday.

Nineteen-year-old Jahad Phillips of Newark was shot in the torsoafter officers interrupted a street robbery Tuesday afternoon. Hedied at University Hospital.

Officers confronted the suspects as they fled from WestsidePark, blocking Phillips' path with their patrol car. An officer,whose name has not been disclosed, fired at him through thepassenger side window.

The officer suffered minor cuts when the window shattered.

The second suspect, identified Thursday as 20-year-old RaheemWalker of Newark, eluded police.
