Baby killed by fallen tree branch

A Union City family mourned the death of their 6-month-old girl yesterday after a tree branch fell on her and her mother.

Six-month-old Gianna and her mother, Carla Riccutti, 33, were both at the Central Park Zoo in New York City Saturday when a tree branch fell on them, killing the little girl.

Witness Trung Tran, of Edison, says the mother and daughter were posing for a picture when the branch fell on them. Tran says after the branch fell, he didn't hear the baby crying, and knew something terrible had happened.

Ricutti is recovering at a New York City hospital. The baby was pronounced dead upon arrival at the same hospital.

The death marks the second fatality caused by a tree branch this year at Central Park. A 56-year-old man died in February when a branch heavy from snow fell and hit him.
