Lightning eyed as cause of Barnegat brush fire
Lightning is being eyed as the cause of a massive brush fire in the Pinelands.
Fire warden Bert Plante, from the state Forest Fire Service, says it appears the fire started over the weekend when lightning struck a tree. The brush fire has scorched about 900 acres in the state. The area is still burning and firefighters are still at the scene attempting to keep the fire contained. Shawn Judy, the incident commander for the state Forest Fire Service, says that the fire will continue to burn until there is a significant amount of rainfall to put out the flames.
