NJ man charged in boat hit near Statue of Liberty

(AP) - Bond is set at $50,000 for a New Jersey mancharged after a boat crash near the Statue of Liberty that killed agroom-to-be and injured two other men.

Richard Aquilone of Jersey City appeared in a New York Citycourtroom this afternoon. He pleaded not guilty to charges ofvehicular manslaughter, operating a vessel under the influence ofalcohol or drugs and child endangerment.

Authorities say the 39-year-old was out with his wife and theirthree young children when their 30-foot boat hit a smaller craftlast night.

Thirty-year-old Jijo Puthuvamkunnath of Bergenfield and twofriends were in the 17-foot boat anchored off Liberty Island thatwas struck by Aquilone.

Puthuvamkunnath was taken to Jersey City Medical Center, wherehe was pronounced dead of head injuries. His two friends, both also30, were treated for minor injuries.

No one on the larger boat was injured.
