Fire destroys home in Riverdale

A 17-year-old boy managed to escape from a fire that authorities say has destroyed one home in Riverdale.

The fire broke out at a Hillside Avenue home around 4 a.m. this morning. A smell of smoke woke the sleeping teen, who safely evacuated the home. No other people were inside the home.

Officials tell News 12 New Jersey the fire began as a result of a gas leak. Utility crews were called to secure the leak.

No injuries have been reported as a result of the blaze.
