Temperatures continue to soar in the Garden State

Temperatures continued to soar around New Jersey today.

News 12 New Jersey meteorologist Michele Powers says temperatures crossed the 100-degree mark across most of the state.

A record-breaking 103-degree reading was officially taken in Newark. There were other unofficial reports of up to 107 degrees.

A heat advisory has also been posted for Bergen, Passaic, Essex, Hudson, Union, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Morris, Ocean, Somerset, Sussex, Warren and Western Monmouth counties until 8 p.m. tonight.

With temperatures climbing into triple digits, air quality advisories are in effect today. Water use restrictions have also been issued in Monmouth County and parts of Ocean County.
