Illegal fireworks blamed for Newark fires
A rash of fires that left 26 people homeless is being blamed on illegal fireworks.
The Newark Fire Department says a total of five fireworks fires were set across the city from Friday to Monday.
In a fire on Aldine Street, two vacant homes were torched after investigators say illegal fireworks were tossed inside. A neighboring home was also damaged.
In another fire on Voorhees Street, fireworks helped burn out an entire apartment building. Fireworks were tossed into bushes outside, and the fire spread from there, according to officials.
Newark police are searching for suspects in the fireworks arson fires. So far, no arrests have been made.
