The temperature hit the 103-degree mark at Newark Liberty Airport around 12:30 p.m. yesterday, breaking the previous record of 102 set in 1999.

A heat advisory has been posted for Bergen, Passaic, Essex, Hudson, Union, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Morris, Ocean, Somerset, Sussex, Warren and Western Monmouth counties until 6 p.m. tonight.

An excessive heat warning has been issued for Mercer County and parts of southern New Jersey until 8 p.m. tonight.

With temperatures climbing to near triple digits, air quality advisories are in effect today. Water use restrictions have also been issued in Monmouth County and parts of Ocean County.
