Animal Control: Puppies left in cage during 100-degree heat

Paterson Animal Control says several puppies were found in a cage yesterday in a Paterson backyard.

According to Animal Control officers, the puppies were in the cage for days, maybe even weeks during 100-degree heat. Officers say the four pit bull mixes were found without food, water and shelter.

Animal Control says it might not have found the puppies if it weren't for an alert building inspector. The inspector was looking at the home after the house next door caught fire. Officials say when he went around the back of the home and through an alleyway, he found the puppies trapped in a cage.

Neighbors insist they don't know who owns the dogs, but Paterson Animal Control says it is investigating.
