West Long Branch police may have to change locations due to mold problems

The West Long Branch Police Department may have to move to a brand new building due to mold problems.

According to Police Chief John Demaree, black mold was found in several offices at the Old Borough Hall on Poplar Street. He says the mold has destroyed many old police files.

Demaree says he is in favor of a plan by some on the Borough Council to build a new police headquarters. He feels putting money into a new building is better than fixing up the old building.

The department will have to wait a few weeks for test results to come back on whether the substance is dangerous black mold.

The Borough Council will discuss a new headquarters at meeting on Wednesday night.
