Emerson mayor has plans for re-development of the business district

Emerson Mayor Steve Setteducati says he has big plans for the re-development of the downtown business district.

Setteducati's vision is to make the streets of Emerson pedestrian friendly with park benches and greenery. He says the plans will affect just about every business along a stretch of Kinderkamack Road. Some of the buildings will be modified, and others will be destroyed.

The borough says some businesses will have to relocate while the work is being done. Some business owners say closing a store for any length of time can be devastating to sales. The mayor says he hopes the transition to renovate the area will be as painless as possible for shop owners.

A public hearing about the planned renovation project will be held in late August. The mayor is encouraging all business owners to take part in the planning process.
