Two pilots killed after two small planes collide above Morris County

(08/07/04) KINNELON - Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officials say two people are dead after two small commuter planes collided in midair above Morris County at about 9:15 Saturday morning.

An FAA spokesperson says a Cessna 150 and a Piper PA-28 collided, resulting in one of the aircraft crashing down into the backyard of a home in Kinnelon. The planes came down about a half mile apart.

The two pilots who were killed, Eric Meyerwald and William Schott, were the only people aboard the planes. No one on the ground was injured.

Authorities say it is not immediately clear where the planes were heading or whether the pilots had communicated with each other before the collision. They are still investigating the cause of the crash.
