Small plane crashes near Sky Manor Airport runway; four aboard are injured

(08/08/04) FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP - Authorities say a small plane crashed near the runway at Sky Manor Airport in Hunterdon County Sunday afternoon. The aircraft came down on a homeowner's front lawn in Franklin Township along Sky Manor Road.

One person on board suffered severe injuries and was airlifted to a local hospital. The three other people on the six-seater single-engine Piper PA-32 plane, including the pilot, were treated for minor injuries. No one on the ground was hurt.

Officials at the crash site tell News 12 New Jersey the passengers, three women and one man, were very lucky to survive because of the proximity of power lines and trees to where the crash occurred.

It is currently not known whether the plane was landing or taking off when it crashed. Members of the Federal Aviation Administration and the New Jersey Bureau of Aeronautics are investigating the incident.
