Terrorist plans to target the Prudential Building in Newark are uncovered

(08/08/04) NEWARK - An article in the latest edition of TIME magazine due out Monday contains new information about the terrorist plans to target the Prudential Building in Newark.

Members of the al-Qaida terrorist regime allegedly planned to use a black limousine as a deadly weapon to blow up the building. They had apparently scoped out the building's underground parking garage and suggested using a black limo filled with explosives because it would be easier to get inside than a van or truck.

It is believed terrorists took pictures of the Prudential Building as recently as this past January. Top intelligence officials believe it has been a target since 2000 or 2001. They say such plans are often plotted out years before anyone attempts to actually carry them out.

Security has been beefed up around the building since word of the threat first emerged. Governor McGreevey attributes the success of foiling the terror plot to communication.
