Some residents in Mercer County fight plans to build a Walmart in Lawrence

Some residents in Mercer County have formed a "Let's Stop Walmart" group to fight plans to build a new super store in Lawrence.

Walmart wants to set up a new location at the corner of Spruce Street and Artic Avenue, which is at the border of Lawrence and Ewing Township.

Some Ewing Township residents say the new store will bring more traffic to the area. Members of the "Let's Stop Walmart" group say the big-box store may put mom and pop stores out of business quickly. Some of those small business owners have attended "Let's Stop Walmart" meetings. Some local unions are also behind the effort to stop the Walmart from being built. They claim Walmart does not use union labor.

Walmart is set to meet with the Lawrence Planning Board next week. Anti-Walmart group members say they plan to protest outside that meeting.
