Plan to build new school in Union City met with resistance

A plan to build a school in one Union City neighborhood is meeting resistance from some property owners. The school would go up on Kennedy Boulevard in the area of 5th Street and Paterson Plank Road. Construction is scheduled to start in one year. Around 30 property owners would have to sell and some say the money they have been offered is not enough. However, Mike Rafat of the Schools Construction Corporation says a price for the property has not been settled and he hopes to have the deal complete by May of next year. The school would be built as part of a state program to ease overcrowding.
