Perth Amboy police officer shoots and kills man during disturbance call

(08/20/04) PERTH AMBOY - Police are conducting an inquiry into the fatal shooting of a man by a Perth Amboy police officer Friday morning.

Police officials say the situation unfolded when officers responded to a disturbance call at an apartment on King Road in Perth Amboy. An eyewitness says he saw one officer enter the building and then heard approximately eight shots fired.

According to police, the victim of the shooting was 41-year-old Curtis Good. The Perth Amboy native died at an area hospital less than an hour after the shooting. The officer who shot Good was Carmen Fazzolari, an 18-year veteran of the Perth Amboy police force.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce Kaplan says an inquiry into the shooting will be conducted. According to Kaplan, prosecutors want to investigate what occurred in the apartment building before Fazzolari fired his weapon.

Fazzolari is on administrative leave until the inquiry is completed.
