Freehold condo occupants disgusted by lingering smell of dead body

(08/27/04) FREEHOLD - Residents of a Freehold condominium complex say they had to deal with horrendous odors after police removed a dead body and neglected to clean up after themselves.

Tenants of Deerwood Condominiums say the foul stench from a man's decaying corpse lingered eight days after police removed the body. According to residents, the body belonged to a man who killed himself approximately two weeks ago in one of the units. One tenant says the police rushed their job of taking the corpse away and never fully cleaned the apartment he was found in.

Police officials say the responsibility to clean up of the scene falls on the complex's owner, which happens to be the father of the dead man. Specialized cleaning crews eventually arrived late Friday to take care of the problem. Although residents are relieved, they say the problem should have been resolved sooner.
