New Jersey State Police prepared to protect during GOP Convention in NYC

(08/29/04) WEST TRENTON - New Jersey State Police are on high alert with the Republican National Convention set to begin Monday. Though the convention is in Manhattan, New Jersey troopers have set up four command centers around the state.

The main post is located in an undisclosed location. In addition to the four command posts in the Garden State, at least one New Jersey police trooper will be stationed at all of the command centers in New York.

Inside the communications center at state police headquarters in West Trenton, there will be representatives from 17 agencies working once the convention begins. Both civilians and troopers will be manning the phones and keeping a detailed log of any incidents of note in New Jersey and New York in an effort to prevent a terrorist attack.

From the center, troopers can also keep their eyes on the roadways, bridges and tunnels. State police say they have been planning months in advance for this upcoming week.
