Middletown South H.S. hopes new football stadium will be ready for home opener

Many people in Middletown are wondering if the brand new $1 million football stadium at Middletown South High School will be ready in time for the season opener September 11. In the meantime, crews are racing the clock to get the job done. Coach Steve Antonucci is hopeful, but hesitant his team will get to play their home opener versus Long Branch on the state-of-the-art field. There is still a lot of work that needs to be done. The bleachers need to be repaired, the track isn't complete and the goal posts aren't up. On Friday, crews were hurrying to spread the rubber granules on the field needed to soften the feel of the polyethylene fiber turf. Meanwhile, contractors are confident the field will be done in time. If the field isn't completed in time Middletown South will have to play on the field of their rival, High School North.
