Some Point Pleasant residents say emergency sirens are a nuisance

Emergency sirens in Point Pleasant Borough are meant to save peoples lives, but some residents say the noise is ruining their quality of life.

First responders say the sirens are a necessary evil. Some people who live near the siren towers say the noise is annoying and they are worried about their childrens hearing.

Other residents are so fed up with the emergency sirens that they want them silenced altogether. They feel emergency workers should use cell phones or beepers. The first aid squad has both cell phones and pagers but say they are not always reliable.

The sirens sound between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. One councilman says borough engineers are currently field-testing the decibel levels near the towers.
