Fairlawn residents stage picnic to protest redevelopment of Daly Field

For months some Fairlawn residents have been fighting to preserve Daly Field. On Sunday they took a hands-on approach to save the recreational field-they staged a picnic.

Residents showed up with their families and pets, to play, to picnic and to protest. Chants of Daly is your land, Daly is my land, could be heard echoing throughout the day.

Some community members are outraged that the owners of the field want to turn the field into a development of townhouses. Even though the property is privately owned, residents say the town is also getting involved.

Fairlawn Mayor David Ganz says the planning board and ultimately the council could decide how the land is redeveloped. The next planning board meeting is scheduled for September 20.
