Fletcher Lake near Bradley Beach is on the brink of overflowing

Monmouth County officials are trying to unclog pipes in Fletcher Lake near Bradley Beach because the lake is on the brink of overflowing.

There is concern from county officials that with the next rainstorm, the lake could flood out neighboring homes. Usually water from the lake is released through a huge pipe and the water runs into the river. However, the pipe is clogged with sand and the equipment the workers are using is not strong enough to lift the jetty rocks blocking it.

Members of an excavating company out of Long Branch will bring in equipment Friday that is powerful enough to lift the jetty rocks. County officials hope the pipe will be unclogged before the wet weather arrives.
