Some residents upset over South Toms River animal house

Some residents are upset about a house that has too many animals in South Toms River.

The house, which some have called a barn and a zoo, is located on the corner of South Main Street and Magnolia Avenue. Neighbors say the owners have more than 20 dogs, countless cats and several exotic animals. They say the smell is strong enough to make someone sick.

The board of health and the SPCA have promised to inspect the home. The owner of the house says she is an animal lover and does not mean to harm anyone. She says she is going to start giving her dogs to the Popcorn Park Zoo in Lacey.

Currently the borough does not limit the number of pets a homeowner can have. However, the Mayor says he is working on a new ordinance to put new restrictions on pet owners.
