Almost 600 bikers ride on Garden State Pkwy. in fundraiser to fight breast cancer

(09/26/04) EDISON - Hundreds of motorcyclists drove an 80-mile stretch of the Garden State Parkway on Sunday to raise money in the fight against breast cancer. They virtually shut down part of the parkway from Paramus to Belmar for the fundraiser.

The core 100 riders were all law enforcement officers from several different counties. The rest were just along for the ride. The line of almost 600 bikers stretched for eight miles, and every person involved donated at least $25.

Ben DiGregorio with the volunteer law enforcement group called the "Blue Knights" organized the event. His wife is a breast cancer survivor. Since last year, the number of participants in the ride has doubled. Organizers estimate they raised up to $30,000 this year.
