State Senator Dick Codey trying to get the Mets to the Meadowlands
State Senator Dick Codey (D-District 27), who becomes acting governor on November 15, is trying to get the Mets to the Meadowlands.
Next Tuesday, ground will be broken at the Meadowlands for the $1.4 billion Xanadu project. It is designed to turn the area into a family entertainment center. Codey says the new center is just the spot for Major League Baseball.
The head of the NJ Sports and Exposition Authority, George Zoffinger, is proposing a plan to build a 40,000-seat stadium at the Meadowlands for baseball. Zoffinger says if the Mets ultimately say no, the authority will try to get another, smaller baseball team to play there.
Codey says he has not talked to Mets management about his plan yet. He hopes to meet with the owners within the next week or two to hash out the idea.
