Two possible attempted abductions have Basking Ridge parents on edge

Reports of two possible attempted abductions that occurred last week have many Basking Ridge parents on edge.

Police say on Thursday a man wearing soccer attire (pictured) tried to lure an eight-year-old girl away from her soccer practice at Pleasant Valley Park. They say the man called the girl by name, shook her hand and told her he had candy hidden in his car. The girl managed to pull away from the man and tell her parents.

Police are also investigating an incident last Tuesday when a suspicious white car pulled up to a 12-year-old boy walking home from school along Grist Mill Drive. They say the driver asked the boy if he wanted a ride and the boy said no.

Police say the two incidents are not related, but are asking parents to be on the lookout. They ask anyone with information on either case to call the police department at (908) 766-1122.
