Police shoot and kill Mount Olive man they say stabbed his father

One man is dead Monday after an early morning shooting in Mount Olive Township.

Police say they responded to a call on Pine Street and Sunrise Avenue in the Budd Lake Heights section of Mount Olive. According to police, the caller said his son had stabbed him.

When police arrived on the scene, they say 35-year-old Gregory Alli approached an officer with a knife. The officer shot and struck Alli after he refused to put down his weapon. He was taken to Hackettstown Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Morris County prosecutors were on the scene searching for evidence. Police say they have been called to the same home several times in the past in response to reports of erratic behavior by Alli. Allis father was treated at the hospital for a chest wound and is expected to survive.
